The stage is yours. You’ve got 2 minutes, 1 microphone, and the audience cheering you on. This is Poetry Slam: a welcoming space to test out your words for new and experienced poets alike.

This month we feature our very own Damien Becker, co-host of Poets Out Loud and the current NSW Slam Champion. Damien took out the 2019 state championship after less than 2 years on the spoken-word scene. A cystic fibrosis elder and double-lung transplant recipient, his work explores the quiet spaces of triumph and absurdity in navigating cultural expectation and systems.

Plus the stage is open for YOU to share an original poem, rant, rap, story or spoken-word creation. Sign up to either the open mic, or enter the slam to WIN $50 cash judged by random audience members. What’s the difference? A strict 2 minute time limit on the slam, and that’s it!
