In this 2-week immersion, you are invited to uncover your authentic voice through poetic practice. Join prize-winning poet Sarah Temporal to explore your writing in a supportive workshop setting. Create poems in a variety of contemporary styles including confessional, collage, and spoken-word.  Through a series of creative exercises as well as discussion of selected examples, we will examine what gives poetry its particular power to reveal our hidden selves.

Suitable for beginner to intermediate writers. Ages 16+.

Outcomes:

  • Writing prompts to create your own poems
  • Explore a variety of contemporary poets and styles
  • Expert feedback on your drafts in development
  • Strategies for creative process and editing

Requirements:

BYO writing notebook or device. Email access to send/receive drafts, or other arrangements made. No prior experience necessary.

About the facilitator

Sarah Temporal lives and works on Bundjalung lands: a poet, educator, and producer. She explores the stories we tell and the secrets we keep in her debut collection Tight Bindings, (Puncher and Wattmann 2024). Sarah is a three-times finalist of the XYZ Prize for Excellence in Spoken-Word and a winner of multiple poetry slams, with works published in Best of Australian PoemsCordite, Australian Poetry Anthology and more. Sarah is the director of Poets Out Loud, working to empower voices of all ages through writing and spoken-word.
