Youth Poetry Slam
April 3, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
| FreeWitness fresh new voices from the Poets Out Loud Youth program. Forget what you learnt about poetry in school – this is a raw, live, powerful performance that is open to anyone.
Poets Out Loud Youth Program aims to empower young people to share their stories creatively.
A poetry slam is a live spoken-word competition. A panel of judges will choose the winning poet/s based on writing, performance, and audience response.
First prize $400 cash, sponsored by Griffith University.
The Youth Poetry Slam is open to individuals and teams aged 12-24 years old in the Tweed and Northern Rivers regions.
“If you can rap, that’s poetry. If you can rant, that’s poetry. If you can tell us what you think in 2 minutes with nothing but your voice and a microphone, you need to enter the Youth Poetry Slam because we want to hear from you!” – Sarah Temporal, director Poets Out Loud.
The event will also include a high-profile feature poet and live DJ, plus the announcement of the winner of the Youth Short Story competition.
This is a free, family-friendly event for the Tweed Shire Council’s Youth Week program.
Register FREE to attend the event. No need to print tickets.
Light refreshments available at the event.
